Missionary NGO Busted For Child Kidnapping And Trafficking

A child trafficking syndicate that specialises in bringing underage children from the northern part of Nigeria to serve as house-helps, has been uncovered by the State Security Service (SSS) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

While parading the suspects on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the State Director of Security, Friday Onuche, revealed that the group usually deceived the parents of the children by promising them that the children would get a better living condition and education.

He said: “There is need, therefore, for members of the public to be sensitised on the need to be circumspect in the way they give out children or take in children from such unscrupulous modern day slave traders.

The victims comprising 12 males and 24 females, whose age range between five and 14 years, have been brought into Bayelsa State to serve as maids.

The amount expected to get one of these kids as a living maid is the sum of 25,000 Naira.

According to reports, the syndicate is made up of four persons, three men who claimed to be pastors at a popular Nigerian church and a lady.

They are: Pastor Anthoy Onuibiyie (54) from Enugu State, Pastor Bala (41), Pastor Dauda Garda (32), both from Kebbi State and Miss Tonbra Alazigha (38) from Bayelsa.

Pastor Anthony Onuibiyie, who is said to be the leader of the group, travels to states to bring the children after those interested in the services of the children have made a payment of 12,000 Naira to cover the transportation.

It is also reported that this is not the first time the syndicates were being arrested by law enforcement agents, as they have been arrested by the Anambra State Police earlier in the year.

Miss Tonbra Alazigha is a single mother of five biological children. She is a proprietor of Christian Heritage School in Biogbolo, Yenagoa.

She has a charity organisation that is in charge of distributing the children to the different homes that they will serve. She has within the space of six months distributed 16 children in the state.

Some of the children, who narrated their ordeal to reporters, said that the missionaries, who arranged with their parents to place them in choice schools, handed them to foster parents.

“The pastors came to our villages in Zaria and convinced some parents, who are unable to train their children in schools. When we got to Bayelsa they took us to different homes.

“The woman I was asked to live with used to assign me to the farm and I also sold water for her. I no longer went to school. I started school at the beginning of the term but she told me to stop school now,” one of the children said.

RCCG CONFIRMS Plans To Build World's Biggest Auditorium + Explains Their Stance On Gay Marriage And Other Issues

Just the other day, we were telling you about the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG's plans of building the world's biggest auditorium in Ogun state  and yesterday, the church confirmed that its new three kilometre square auditorium expected to host 12 million persons will be one of the venues for its 63rd annual convention slated to begin August 9.

The church also condemned same sex marriage, which was recently endorsed by the American Supreme Court, saying “We don’t support it. There is no where in the Bible where God said people of the same sex can get married. The stand of the church is very clear and it states; one man, one wife.”

In the same vein, the church also clarified its position about Christians in politics, noting that it does not bar individual members of the church from participating in politics but "we are not accountable for their performance. We pray for those in power as the Bible has enjoined us to do. That is our stand but we believe that by the end of this year, Nigerians will have cause to say that all is well.”

Addressing newsmen at the church’s Redemption Camp, Head of Media and Public Relations, Pastor Segun Adegbiji with support from several ministers of the church, said the new arena will host "plenary sessions of a few evenings of the week long programme on an experimental basis."

According to Pastor Adegbiji adequate arrangements have been put in place to host participants from the 24 regions of the church spread across 188 countries of the world. Adegbiji quoted the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye as warning unserious persons to stay away from this year’s convention, which has a theme "The All Sufficient God."

Woman Fined 50,000 naira for cheating on the Husband with lover

A 29-year-old house wife, identified simply as Vero, has been accused of infidelity in Irri community, in the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Her husband, identified as Ben, on Thursday told the elders of the community that he caught his wife in illicit love affair in an uncompleted building. According to sources, Umukoro insisted that the elders must dissolve the marriage in line with the tradition of the Isoko people.

One of the sources said:

“Today (Thursday), Ben met with the elders of the community and asked them to dissolve his marriage to Vero in the Isoko tradition. He told the elders that the woman and her secret lover were caught having sex in an apartment in the outskirt of the community.”
It was gathered that the illicit relationship between the woman and the man had been going unnoticed by the husband before the bubble burst. Punch was told that after Vero and her lover were caught, some youths in the area manhandled the lover.

He was later summoned by Ben’s family and told to appease the gods according to the custom and tradition of the people, in order to avoid calamity that could befall the community as a result of the adultery.

The source added, “However, a fine of N50,000 was imposed by the family on the woman. She was subsequently banished from the house pending when she would comply with the directive.”

Doctors at Yaba Psychiatric Hospital Desert Hospital over Recurrent Attacks from Lunatics

Doctors at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, have cried out over recurrent attacks from mentally challenged patients at the hospital.

The psychiatrists, who are on an indefinite strike to protest issues of insecurity at the federal hospital, said many of their colleagues had suffered severe injuries due to violent attacks from their patients. The last attack that boke the camel's back was the attack on two female doctors at the outpatient unit of the hospital in June.

The President, Association of Resident Doctors of the hospital, Dr. Jeje Oyetayo told PUNCH:
“Patients have attacked doctors severally at the hospital and we don’t have trained security personnel to address this. But the last one was on the 5th of June, two female doctors were attacked such that consultants had to come and save them.
The patient took an iron rod and started running around with it and there were no
security officials. Patients get violent occasionally but the norm is that there should be trained personnel that can disarm them.
I mean they should hold their hands and subdue them. But if there are no trained security personnel, the patient and the doctor can be injured in the process of trying to douse the violent situation and it may escalate.”
Oyetayo called on the Federal Government and authorities at the hospital to quickly review the security logistics with a view of protecting the lives of health workers while delivering their duties at the hospital. She continued:
“There are no escape routes for health workers in case of an emergency such as when we have an aggressive patient which could lead to harm to doctors, patients and relatives. There is no functioning alarm system to alert security officials for help in case of an emergency and even the consultants have refused to run clinics due to the security challenges.
The Federal Ministry of Health needs to step in to avoid loss of lives as well as bodily harm to health workers as well as patients and their relatives,”
Another resident doctor at the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity on Wednesday also complained that they had to consult for their patients in an unconducive environment, a situation, he said could encourage attacks from patients.
“The chairs and tables in the consulting rooms are rickety. Patients have to stand over doctors and we know the danger of a psychiatric patient towering over anyone. Many times, we have six doctors consulting for patients in a room structured for just one doctor and the patient. Many terrible things happen under these circumstances.”
Checks by Punch round the hospital on Wednesday revealed that skeletal services were being offered.
The emergency and outpatient units which used to be filled with patients were almost empty as very few personnel were on ground.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Rahman Lawal, admitted that the hospital was presently experiencing a shortage of security personnel due to lapses in logistics.

Lawal, however, said that the attack on the doctors in June was due the fact that health workers who should have catered to patients at the emergency unit were on strike. He said:
“ We have been outsourcing security needs for some time now and we are having problems with the payment of our outsourced staff including security personnel. Some leave without telling us they are going and it takes time to replace them.”
