Woman endures several days of torture to protect her son from her husband (Graphic photos)

A 23 year old new mum, Prosper Ortega, was according to her family, a happy new bride just 6 months ago. Photos show her beaming and posing with her growing belly, a child, Ari, whom she gave birthto on June 16th. However, things became bad for Prosper when her husband became physically abusive towards her and tried to take away their infant child.Now, Prosper is in the hospital in a serious condition after that same husband, Aaron Uchitel, is charged withaggravated battery, false imprisonment, and cruelty to children. Ortega's family says he tortured her for days and drugged her drinks to keep her weak.Prosper's family says it all happened in front of their few weeks-old infant baby boy. The pictures of injuries are difficult to see, but Ortega's family says she insisted they post them because she wanted people to see what had happened to her.Her mum, Fawn Ortega, said:"Her ribs are broken. He beat her ribs and breast sayingher milk was useless and she was worthless,". "He triedto blind her so she couldn't see her baby, he tried to make her deaf so she couldn't hear him crying for her."

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ajali in Orumba North Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State, inan attempt to arrest members of a notorious gang terrorizing Nanka Community, had one of his ears chopped off and was disrobed.According to SaharaReporters, the DPO and his team raided the den of the nine-man gang, and successfully arrested Mr. Ifedilichukwu Nwankwo, Mr. Chidi Nwankwo and Mr. Udoye Kenechukwu after previous attempts by the Police Force Criminal Investigations Department (Force CID), Abuja and Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia.Amidst the parade of the gang members at the headquarters of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), police spokesperson Mr. Akwuzu Okechukwu stated that the DPO was ambushed, his clothes ripped to shreds, one of his ears chopped off. According to Mr. Okechukwu, the DPO is receiving treatment at a hospital.The arrest is a big win for the police as the gang had been terrorizing Nanka for years. According to the Police Public Relations Office (PPRO), the gang has been linked to other attacks in the region. Their notoriety led to the police’s efforts to mobilize men to arrest the suspects at Nanka.The gang's activities have also been linked to to the death of Mr. Okechukwu Udezuka of Orifite in Ekwusigo LGA and one Mr. Ebuka at Tarzan area of Nkpor, near Onitsha, on February 2, 2014. Confirming the allegations, the gang members confessed that Mr. Nwanwko and his gang killed the victims.
