On Sunday 19th of July 2015, a 200lvl student of the University of Benin, Awele Rita Hallim along with her roommate Ese, were hit by an army patrol vehicle at the front of the University gate, the students of the institution, as well as course mates, student union, family members and friends came out in their large numbers to protest the death of the late Rita the stopped all vehicular movement on the benin/lagos expressway , The students came out the protest and cry out for the need of a flyover as well as speed breakers, to be placed on the road, as the number of death recorded at the front of the university gate keeps increasing, the young girls were about crossing the road when the army vehicle, crushed one and injured the other, Rita couldn't survive the incident, the university officials are claiming to have compensated the surviving student with the sum of 40,000 naira. The students are asking the relevant authorities to make the roads safer as the safety of the students are not guaranteed. RIP Rita
